Is Trauma Insurance for me?
Before you decide whether trauma insurance for you or not, let’s look at some of the health facts of Australians.  82,000 is the number of cancer cases diagnosed in Australia each year  40,000 is the number of Australians who suffer strokes in a year  17,000 is the number of Australians who undergo bypass surgery every year to survive a heart attack or a stroke

29% of Australians over 25 suffer high blood pressure out of which 50% have high cholestrol levels and rest were overweight or obese. Moreover, trauma Insurance claims are over 3 times than the claims for other types of insurance.

Given the above facts, it is very much possible that we might see one of our friends, relatives, colleagues or neighbours being hit by trauma condition. It is equally possible that they might see us in such a condition.

Therefore, it isn’t wiser to think on the lines of “It won’t happen to me”. The threat is real and we must instead take steps to avoid such situation and if at all it happens, to protect us.

Survival Rate is going up and so are trauma cases

If these figures are depressing you can get respite from the fact that due to advancements in Medical technology, more and more number of trauma patients can look forward to successful treatment and save their lives. This would also increase survival rate. However, increase in survival rate does not mean any decrease in trauma rate, which given the high pressure lifestyle of present times looks like increasing steadily, giving us more reasons to get protection.

Cancers, strokes, attacks and similar trauma conditions are major medical problems and the patient takes a lot of time to heal. Some of the times he/she may NOT heal completely and would rather have to learn to live with the problem, which might mean change in work and lifestyle, more rest, more time off work and sometimes a job shift with less hours and lesser pay thereby creating financial crunch – another reason to get a cover.

Why Trauma Insurance

Trauma Insurance therefore is very important to continue with your financial commitments and avoid the pressure of returning to work as soon as possible because of the pressing need to earn. Most of the people may depend upon the fund paid by the employer to tackle with a trauma situation. However, the cover provided might not be adequate. Moreover it is very much possible that the fund would be paid only upon the death of the worker, which can make the situation quite precarious in case the patient survives the trauma situation.

Trauma conditions like heart attack, stoke, paralysis, bypass surgery etc also do not qualify for Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) as it pays one only when the person is unable to work in future. Instead if one survives a heart attack, it is very probable that he would return to work albeit all the health precautions he might have to take in future.

Therefore the only way out to fund your needs and not put your family and loved ones in a financial hardship is to buy a trauma insurance which will not only ensure a lump sum money which can be used at the insurer’s discretion but also keep loved ones at peace.

Trama insurance is available for Australian residents ages 18 to 55 and quotes can be collected from various Insurance companies by requesting a visit by a company representative or online.

It’s high time we shift from “It will never happen to me” to “It might as well happen to me”
